Until 1945, the Hauenstein was held by the Buquoys. During World War II, it was used as a center for the Hitler Youth. After the war, he was confiscated and fell under the administration of the Czechoslovak state. In 1947, after reconstruction, it was used as a recreation center of the Jáchymov mines. Later, until 1958, a detention center was located here again. It has not been used and fell into disrepair since.

The district national committee wanted to have it renovated several times, but did not find sufficient funding or support for it. After 1982, its demolition was even considered. Only the castle tower, which was to serve as a lookout, was to be preserved.
