Radošovský bridge

Wooden covered bridge originally from the 14th century

This wooden bridge with a shingle roof spans the river Ohře in Radošov near Kyselka near Karlovy Vary and is included among the cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. It is one of the oldest covered wooden bridges in Central Europe and was built on the site of the ancient Radovan's ford, where several trade routes crossed the river. In 1364, Charles IV allowed the island burghers to build a bridge and collect customs duties on it. The bridge was damaged many times by floods and fire, and collapsed several times after the structure rotted. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it was destroyed by the Swedish and French armies. Time and time again, the bridge was built in more or less the same form, only the original wooden pillars were replaced by brick ones in 1768. The last time the bridge was severely damaged by fire was on July 18, 1986. Thanks to a public collection announced by the municipality of Kyselka, funds were raised for restoration, and on October 17, 2003, the bridge was ceremoniously put into operation again.

The bridge can still be crossed by car today

The bridge is open to two-way car traffic, but has only one lane and the passage is allowed only to vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons and heights up to 3 meters.
