The southwest of the island of Samos is dominated by its highest mountain Kerkris, so from the local beaches you have beautiful views of this magnificent limestone massif. The local center is the town of Votsalakie with a beautiful long beach. You can go on trips to other nearby beaches or climb the famous Pythagorean Cave.

Votsalakie as a starting point for trips

The best starting point for trips around the southwest of the island of Samos is Votsalakie with its beautiful long beach, where you will find plenty of privacy.

2.
Trip to Vostalakia Kamos beach

View of the highest mountain on the island of Samos

Altitude: 3 m / 10 ft

Vostalakia Kamos beach is one of the most beautiful and longest beaches in Samos. Here you will find both private and organized parts of the beach. There are also plenty of trees on the beach where you can hide in their shade if you don't want to be on a sun lounger with a parasol. continue reading

Beaches further west from Vostalakie

To the west you can go to two other popular beaches – Psili Ammos (also accessible by bus) and more distant Limnionas

4.
Trip to Psili Ammos beach (west)

The beach where you can meet a turtle card

Altitude: 10 m / 33 ft

Just west of the famous resort of Votsalakia you will find the beautiful beach of Psili Ammos. Beware of confusion, the beach of the same name can also be found almost in the very east of the island of Samos. But this is another more private one. You will find the tavern on the slope, not directly on the beach. There are several sunbeds but next to a lot of loose golden sand continue reading

5.
Trip to Limnionas beach

Beach with the most beautiful views of Samos

Altitude: 5 m / 16 ft

Limnionas is a beach on the southwest island of Samos. From the beach is perhaps the most beautiful view of the highest mountain of the island of Kerkris. The beach itself looks beautiful, but thanks to the rock plates, it is not one of the best for swimming continue reading

Trip to Tripiti and the port of Ormos

Just beyond the eastern end of Votsalakia is the beautiful small bay of Tripiti. Just behind the hill is the picturesque port of Ormos – the perfect place for an evening stroll with dinner in the tavern

7.
Trip to Tripiti beach

A small beach between Ormos and Marathokampa

Altitude: 9 m / 30 ft

At the very eastern end of Votsalakia – Kampos Marathokampou lies the picturesque bay of Tripiti. You will find here only a few sunbeds and for most of the day a beautiful calm without a crowd of tourists. The road runs high above the beach, so it does not interfere. continue reading

8.
Trip to the port of Ormos

Picturesque port of Samos

Altitude: 10 m / 33 ft

The picturesque port village of Ormos is located in the southwestern part of the island of Samos. It used to be a port for the village of Marathokampos, high in the hills above the sea. Now you will find a nice church and several taverns made for dinner overlooking the sea continue reading

Beaches east of Votsalakia

Further east is the famous and beautiful Kaladakia beach hidden among the cliffs. Even further east is Balos beach, but it is no longer a top TOP.

10.
Trip to Kaladakia beach

Swimming and diving in the Blue Cave

Altitude: 7 m / 23 ft

Kaladakia Beach is famous mainly for its beautiful Blue Cave. It is located just two kilometers from the village of Koumeika. The road to it is very steep, but surprisingly there are plenty of parking spaces at the top of the cliff. A large part of the beach is organized, but you will also find patches without sunbeds and umbrellas. continue reading

11.
Trip to Balos beach (Samos)

Lesser known beach on Samos

Altitude: 5 m / 16 ft

Just west of the mountain village of Koumeika you will find a turnoff that will take you to the sea to the Samoan beach of Balos. By Greek standards, this road is quite wide, without the usual adrenaline. The closer you get to its eastern end, the better the beach itself continue reading

Tourism in Samos

The southwest of the island of Samos is also an ideal starting point for hiking. The easy way is to Pythagorean Cave. The highlight, however, is the challenging all-day climb to Kerkris – recommended but only in spring or autumn, where it is not so hot

13.
Ascent to Pythagorean Cave

The most famous cave in Samos

Altitude: 365 m / 1 198 ft

At the eastern foot of the highest mountain in Samos – Kerkris you will find a surprisingly large cave in the rock wall. Its interest is all the greater because it is said that the famous mathematician Pythagoras of Sam also lived in it. There is also a small parking lot under the cave, but you have to climb a few dozen stairs yourself. continue reading
