Beautiful waterfall in the Serra Gaúcha mountains
Caracol State Park is located in southern Brazil in the Serra Gaúcha Mountains. The main attraction is the beautiful waterfall Caracol. The view of the Ferradura canyon is also beautiful. Everything is relatively well accessible from the excursion resorts of Canela and Gramada
The most beautiful view of the Caracol waterfall
From Porta Alegre there are regular buses to the mountain holiday towns of Gramado and Canela. After about 2.5 hours of driving, you are from the hot coastal lowlands in the Serra Gaucha mountains with a more pleasant climate. From Canela, it is only 8 km by local bus to the entrance to the Caracol State Park.
Fairytale waterfall Caracol
Entrance to the park is charged 10Y, but more adventurous and experienced enters the park for free „exit“. The most beautiful view of the waterfall and effortlessly is right from the start.
Endless staircase
If you want to do sports, go up the stairs closer to the waterfall. The staircase originally had 950 steps, now only 750 because the last floor fell apart. If you go downstairs, expect that you will have to step all the way back :-)
Caracol almost at your fingertips
The waterfall falls from a rock overhang of more than 115 meters. It is beautiful on it as it is surrounded by unspoilt greenery.
Smaller cascades over Caracola
After a tour of the main waterfall, you can take a short forest path to another nice cascade.
Road to the view of the Ferradura canyon
Another area attraction is the stunning Ferradura Canyon in Parque Vale da Ferradura. It is about 7 km from the waterfall. Unfortunately not on a hiking trail, but on a dusty road. Try to hitchhike, I managed it after a kilometer of marching. The excursion traffic is quite strong here. Hydrangea flowers known from our home grow like weeds in the area.
Brazilian lookout May
The view of the Ferradura Canyon is absolutely luxurious. Green mountains from the Tertiary.
Beautiful landscape of southern Brazil
The landscape around the canyon is truly breathtaking
Serra Gauchá
If you have enough time you can go to Canely on foot on your own. At least you can tell by the name of this mountain range – the Gauchú Mountains, local cattle herders.
