A town with a unique wooden bell tower

Rtyně in Podkrkonoší is a small town located just a short distance from the Jestřebí mountains. The main reason to stop here, at least for a short walk, is the unique wooden bell tower built at the end of the 16th century. In addition, there is also a local museum and nice views of the Giant Mountains.

The center of Rtyn in Podkrkonoší is Horníký Square. You can park here and go up the gentle hill on which the local cemetery, the church of St. John the Baptist and especially the local unique wooden bell tower. It is only about 250 meters from the square.

The wooden bell tower is closed most of the day. But before the mass, the bells are rung here, so it is possible to take a look inside. You will be surprised by the narrow and large steep stairs leading up to the upper part of the bell tower.

From the cemetery there is also a nice view of the Giant Mountains, including the highest mountain of the mountain range and the entire Czech Republic – Sněžka

City Museum of Rtyn in Podkrkonoší
The second local attraction is the city museum of Rtyn in Podkrkonoší. There are several exhibits documenting the history of the town, coal mining in the Jestřebí hory and peasant storms.
