A magical church on the Altiplan
Machuca (4,020 m above sea level) is a small Indian village on the Chilean side of the Altiplano. It is known only for its beautiful church. If it weren't for the roads to Tatio Geyser, hardly anyone would find their way here.
Machuca
At first glance, Machuca looks like an open-air museum. It must have lived extremely modestly here for centuries.
Under the church
Above the village with several houses stands behind the wall a beautiful church
Small church in Machuca
Throughout this area, on both sides of the Chilean-Bolivian border, you will find dozens of these churches, but this one in Machuca is one of the most beautiful.
View from the church on the village
In Machuka, practically every trip to the Tatio geysers stops on the way back. There is usually lunch here. From the church you can see the surrounding hills, about 4.5 thousand meters above sea level.
The most beautiful view of Machuca
If you are not sick from the altitude, climb the opposite slope from where there is the best view of the village.
