Hazrati Imom masjidi (also known as the Khast Imam Complex) is the spiritual center of Tashkent and one of the most important Islamic sites in Uzbekistan. Located in the old part of the city, it consists of a collection of mosques, madrasas, and mausoleums from different periods. The complex is named after the learned Imam Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi, whose mausoleum can also be seen here.

Barakhan Madrasah

We want, like other tourists, to visit the historical center of Tashkent – the Khast Imam Complex. However, we find out (7/2025) that the entire large neighborhood in the vicinity is under reconstruction and it is difficult to find an alley to get to the monuments. There are parking lots everywhere and we wind our way through roadblocks. Finally, we wind our way through to the Barakkhan Madrasah, which is actually a combination of a madrasah and a mausoleum.

In the madrasa

The madrasa also has souvenir stalls and here and there is shade, which is really needed in the summer heat.

Madrasa from the outside

The madrasa is finally visible even through the iron fences of the builders.

Hazrati Imam Mosque

You can't get to Hazrati Imom masjidi at all – photographed through a fence. The entire passage between the fences leads only to the biggest attraction here – the small Mo'yi Muborak madrasah, where the local treasure is located: the oldest Quran in the world, the so-called Uthman Quran, allegedly written in the 7th century. Unfortunately, you can't take photos here and you have to pay an entrance fee. For non-believers, it's not really that much of an attraction.

Islamic Civilization Center

The biggest landmark, however, is the Islamic Civilization Center located right next door. The building, built according to a decree by President Mirziyoyev in 2017, has three floors, front portals 34 m high, and a central dome reaching a height of approximately 64–65 m.
Anyway, the tour did not meet expectations due to the renovation, but that may change when it is finished.
