The valley of the river Dund Tsenkher (Дунд цэнхэр гол), ie the Blue River, is one of the better access roads to the interior of the mountains in this part of Mongolia. There is a quite comfortable dirt road from Mankhan to Munkhkhairkhan, which is passable for off-road cars. There are some 70 km between the cities, which can be covered by car in a few hours or on foot in 2–3 days.

Blue river valley

The flow of the Blue River itself winds strongly in places in a wide riverbed. However, the vast majority of mountains are completely dry during the year and surface water is lacking here. Therefore, for local conditions, any water flow with a flow throughout the year is very rare.

Oasis

Such quiet green places are slow throughout the area. Thanks to a large rocky outcrop, a relatively large oasis with a stable groundwater level was once created here. Trees will be kept here for a long time, and even a relatively dense forest for local conditions. Ideal for overnight stays.

Brody

Although it may not look like it at first glance, the river can be waded on foot. The flow of the river increases, of course, during the spring thaw.

Rock walls

The rock walls in the morning sun rise above the mostly dry riverbed. For most of the year, the river has little water and the banks are mostly gravel benches. The path usually winds along the stream, but often crawls over the bottom of the valley and climbs the rocky slopes around.

Herds

You can always meet herders here, chasing their herds, or their yurts.

Vein

Contrasting colors create very diverse shapes almost everywhere along the way. In this case, it is a light vein penetrating older dark rocks.

Views

The valley of the Blue River is mostly pleasantly open with a nice view. Just connect from the riverbed to the surrounding slopes and there is no shortage of scenery.

All the colors of the rainbow

The valley of the Blue River winds like a green thread through a colorful wasteland.

A view of one of the side valleys that plays with all colors. For this view, however, you have to climb the hills east of the Blue River valley.
