The history of Cheb Castle began to be written at the beginning of the 12th century. In this article, we will skip several centuries and dive into the time when the Cheb Castle was rebuilt into a Baroque fortress.
By decree of June 3, 1652, Emperor Ferdinand III decided. on the reconstruction of Cheb into a border fortress.
At that time, only Prague had the status of a fortress town throughout the Czech Kingdom.
As part of the construction of the fortress, the original medieval castle was rebuilt into a Baroque fortress citadel.

From that time comes the characteristic red brick masonry, which was used to build casemates and the perimeter of the castle.
