Ostrava volcano
Heap Ema is an artificially created hill formed by a million tons of tailings from the former Ostrava mines. Its history dates back to somewhere in 1920. The heap inside is still burning and smoldering on the surface. It is therefore in vain that it is called „Ostrava Volcano“.
Access to the Heap
The Emu Heap can be reached from the city center or from the Ostrava Zoo. There are several trails and it is up to you which path you take. It can take you half an hour, but also 15 minutes if it comes directly in front of the trail from the west side. Map materials are available on mapy.cz or google.com.
Intestines of the heap
In several places, there are open places from which gases from the bowels of the heap get to the surface, where sometimes up to 1500 degrees temperature prevails. Be careful not to inhale these gases too much.
