Kerið was probably formed three thousand years ago during a sudden explosion of underground gas, leaving a neat conical hill whose crater is 70 meters deep and 70 meters wide. The crater floor is flooded and used for fish farming. Along its red gravel edge with views of the neighboring Seyðishólar crater, an unpretentious 15-minute trail leads.
