The rock rising above Spain
In the very south of the Iberian Peninsula, there is a massive limestone rock. This tactical location makes it very easy to control the Gibraltar Strait between Africa and Europe, or between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic. Since 1713 it has been held by the United Kingdom – of course, to Spain's great displeasure. It is now a popular tourist destination for a day trip
