A relaxing walk above Vltava river
Perfect walk with slightly different views than from the riverbank with possibility of relax, a picnic in the park or a visit to a large beer garden. At the same time, this walk can well work as an alternative route to Prague Castle.
Strossmayer Square with St. Anthony chur
The ideal start of this trip is „Štrosmajerák“ – a small square with a busy tram transport. The metro station Vltavska is close to it. It is only about 400 meters to the beginning of Letna orchards from there.
Hydroelectric power station Stvanice
There are beautiful views of the river Vltava from the park – in this picture you can see a small power plant on the islet Stvanice and Vitkov National Memorial in the background. Unpopular Zizkov transmitter rises above this all.
Botel Albatros offers an interesting option for accommodation right on the river.
You can see large building of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and then towers of the Old Town behind the Stefanik bridge on the other side of the river Vltava.
Letna becomes a popular place for a picnic and relax especially during fine sunny weather. There is a beautiful avenue of plane trees at the bottom.
Beer garden in Letna
Beer garden in Letna is famous for the most beautiful views of Prague. Summer evenings are usually very crowded here. Nice views are, however, redeemed by the higher price of beer.
View of Old Town Square
View towards The Old Town Square is worth it. Everything is dominated by the twin towers of the Tyn Church.
Metronome alias “time machine” in Letna is a popular tourist stop. There once stood a giant statue of Stalin (the largest group sculpture in Europe, demolished in 1962). Tourists are now having fun by throwing pairs of shoes on the cable, drinking beer and admiring the view of the city.
There is a nice view of the Cech bridge and great hotel Intercontinental from the metronome.
One of the most picturesque views of the city are those of Prague bridges connecting the Old Town with Lesser Town.
Very interesting building in Letna orchards is Hanava pavilion, from whose restaurant there is an excellent view of the city.
You cross from Letna orchards to Chotkovy sady (= orchards) over the small footbridge, from where there are interesting views of the most famous Czech bridge – Charles Bridge.
Monument of Julius Zeyer with water casc
In the middle of Chotkovy orchards there is an interesting „fountain“ or rather monument of epic poet Julius Zeyer.
There is also an original view of Prague Castle and Petrin Tower from Chotkovy orchards.
The entire walk takes about one hour. With a stop for a beer or a picnic much more.
