Not far from Prague Castle, at Mickiewiczova 233/1, there is an unusual Art Nouveau building, which was built according to his own design by the prominent graphic artist, sculptor and architect František Bílek in 1911 as his residence with a studio.

The villa is open to the public and visitors can view Bílek's works and learn about his life and work.

Interesting building

Bílek's villa was built in 1910–1911 according to Bílek's own designs. The villa is notable for its architecture, which deviates from traditional styles. Bílek was inspired by natural motifs and organic shapes. The floor plan of the villa resembles a segment of a grain ear and the columns are shaped like sheaves of grain. The facade of dark red brickwork is decorated with reliefs with religious and symbolic motifs.
