The historic center of Bhaktapur is without any doubt the most beautiful Nepalese royal town. The local Durbar Square is dominated by the royal palace. Beautiful pagoda temple Nyatpola is just a bit further. In its vicinity are many other temples with interesting sculptures and stunning carved balconies and doors. Also a bit away from the center you come across a lot of interesting streets with locals living almost original life. So if you are interested in sights and local life, do not forget to undertake a half day trip here.

Bhaktapur square Durbar

The center of old Bhaktapur is made of Durbar square, where you most likely begin your tour. Apart from the great royal palace there are many other interesting temples.

Temple Nyatpola

The most important building of the entire Bhaktapur is five-storey pagoda of temple Nyatpola in the square Tamaudhi only two hundred meters from the main square Durbar. The main staircase is also „protected“ by massive statues.

Stairs to the temple Nyatpola

Statues of powerful beings are very nicely done. You can meet here a lot of elders or disabled, who slowly and with great effort conquer the stairs all the way up to the temple.

View of the square Tamaudhi

On the square Tamaudhi is certainly true that there is more interesting view of the church Nyatpola than from the temple to the rest of the square.

Pottery square

Other tourist attraction in Bhaktapur is the Pottery Square, where the potters exhibit their products most of the year. But in late October, however, there is no place for the markets due to harvest processing.

Exhibition of ceramics

The local pottery is mainly useful, rather than explicitly exhibition. It is also very interesting to look at the production processes in the surrounding furnaces

Tourist artery

The last interesting temples are about three quarter kilometers away on Dattatraya square. The main street, along which you will walk, is the artery of tourism and there are souvenir stalls all around.

Life in Bhaktapur

After seeing the sights it is best to leave the main tourist street and pass through the remote streets of the town and observe local life.
