Mining cities in Atacama
Calama has about 150,000 inhabitants and lies in the middle of the driest desert in the world – Atacama. It is an important traffic junction. From here you can get to the famous San Pedro de Atacama or north to Arici, the starting point to Peru. Not far from here is also the largest copper mine – Chuquicamata. But there is not much to see here

Calama (2,270 m above sea level) is relatively high, at least by European standards. It is a dusty city full of miners with a minimum of sights.

The outskirts of the city do not look twice as showy. Anyway, the dogs are probably doing well here, there are a lot of them.

Even the local nightclub, which also functions as a disco, is not twice as showy.
Cross Mountain behind Calama
If your plan was to climb the hill with the cross behind the city while waiting for the next connection, then it is further than it seemed at first glance and the road to it is a bit unhappy, so maybe you will turn it around, just like us.
View of the desert mountains
From the outskirts of the city there is at least a nice view of the volcanic mountains on the horizon. The highest peak should be called Cerro Santa Genoveva and have three thousand meters above sea level.
