Kynžvart journey III.
15 meters high granite obelisk, which was built in 1835 by Chancellor Metternich in honor of Emperors Francis I and Ferdinand V.
Obelisk
The foundation stone was laid by Emperor Ferdinand V. on September 12, 1835. The front cast iron plate bears the inscription „IUSTITIA REGNORUM FUNDAMENTUM“ (ie „Justice is the basis of government“) and further: „IMP. FRANCISCO I. / DIO FELICI AUGUSTO / QUOD / MAXIMIS TEMPORIB. / CONSTANTIA INVICTA – SAPIENTIA PARI / IMPERIUM – REXIT SERVAVIT ET AUXIT / CLEMENS VENCESLAUS LOTTARIUS / A. METTERNICH VINNEBURG / PRINCEPS – AB. ACTIS. DOMUS. AULAE / IMPERIQ. AUSTRIATI OBSEQUIT CARITATIS / GRATIO ANIMI CAUSSA – DEDICAVIT "(“ Emperor Francis I, a popular emperor who ruled, administered and multiplied the empire with unsurpassed patience and wisdom during difficult times. It was commissioned by Clemens Wenzel Lottar of Prince Metternich-Win to his dexterity in the management of the imperial house and the Austrian Empire, out of love and gratitude ").
Obelisk
The obelisk is located a little away from Kynžvart Castle. Although surrounded by mature trees, it is located in the middle of a golf course. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to golfers and golf carts that can be encountered. Entry to the golf course is not prohibited. The area around the obelisk is tidy. There are also benches nearby.
Obelisk
When visiting Kynžvart Castle, take some time to visit this neglected place, which breathes history.
Obelisk
I would say that most golfers walk around this obelisk without noticing it. It is a real pity.
