Natural disasters

Petr Liška Wrote 19.01.2014:

Avalanches: even in the Giant Mountains there is a risk of avalanches. Some hiking trails close regularly in winter, such as the one that leads under Kozí ridges from Špindlerův Mlýn to Luční bouda. Weather changes: As in every mountain, the biggest danger here is a rapid change in weather. In the fog there is a risk of getting off the road and getting lost (fortunately, there is a good bar marking in the Giant Mountains, which will help you especially in winter, when the classic signs are under a snowstorm). It can suddenly cool down very quickly. So even on a warm day, you need to think about it and have spare clothes in your backpack. Summer storms are also dangerous, when you should not stay on the ridge.
