1-day trip around Dublin
If you have already spent the city of Dublin completely and want to take a pleasant 1-day trip around the area, then the nearby north-facing Howth Peninsula is an ideal choice. You can reach the city center in half an hour and look forward to a picturesque harbor town, a lighthouse or a path around the peninsula above the cliffs overlooking the Irish Sea and Dublin Bay.
Road to Howth from Dublin
The journey from the center of Dublin to the Howth Peninsula itself by public transport takes about 30–40 minutes. You can get there by bus No. 31, but if it is a weekend and nice weather, expect a delay due to convoys (also note that when you buy a ticket from the driver, it only takes cash and only coins and does not return!). Another option is to take a train from Tara station (city center). The journey takes 30 minutes, the ticket price is the same and you do not deal with columns.
The port town of Howth
After getting off the train or bus, you can walk through a small port town of the same name as the peninsula. There you will find many restaurants where they offer, as is the case with port cities, mainly fish and all kinds of seafood, but not only that. You can also go to the local market (Howth market), where you can also taste a lot, but also buy it as a souvenir). A walk along the jetty offers views of the harbor's small lighthouse or a nearby island, accessible only by boat.
Encounter with a seal
The Irish Sea is full of rich underwater life, so if you're lucky, you don't even have to go to sea and you can enjoy meeting a seal right in the harbor. Quite often, a seal finds its way here, because there are small fish in the harbor, which live with sludge at the bottom, and they have a simple hunt.
Trail around the peninsula above the cliffs
The whole peninsula can be bypassed along a path that leads over the cliffs and starts right in the port town. It is not a demanding tourism, but you still need to find at least 3 hours. In the very north of the peninsula you can reach the lighthouse Baily lighthouse. The views of the sea and Dublin Bay are picturesque, but it wants to choose a day with nice weather, because it is often very windy and there is nowhere to hide from any rain.
Two trips around the island
You can choose from a route for a walk on the peninsula. One, as I have already written, lines the entire peninsula around its perimeter and leads over the cliffs over the lighthouse. The second option is only a little shorter and leads through the center of the peninsula over a golf course (entry is allowed) and over the elevated hills, which offer a nice view. And then it connects to the perimeter road in its second half, both leading to the town of Sutton, where two roads intersect and from where you can take a bus or train back to Dublin city center.
