Datça peninsula contrasts with bustling Marmaris. On local calm beaches spend holidays mainly local Turkish families. Peninsula is definitely worth a longer visit, but even during a day trip you can visit here most of the attractions. The trip is a nice combination of driving along a road full of nice views surrounded by limestone mountains and pine forests, swimming in nice beaches and a possible visit to the ancient ruins of Knidos.

Datça peninsula looks on the map as a long narrow noodle surrounded by the sea (at the narrowest point it is not even a kilometer wide) and therefore it is surprising that the highest mountain Boz Dagi has staggering 1,144 m asl. It is a nice one-day long trip, where you can travel in very picturesque mountainous landscape, see ruins of the ancient town of Knidos on the western hill /100 km from Marmaris/ or swim in the beautiful beaches on the southern side. Swimming near the ancient Greek ruins

The road ends hundred kilometers from Marmaris at the west end of Datça Peninsula with beautiful scenery of a bay surrounded by mountains and the ruins of the ancient town of Knidos. As well as most Greek monuments was Knidos very damaged by earthquakes in the past centuries. Now you will see only small ancient theater and a few preserved columns. More than the town itself, the remains of which stretch in all directions across the surrounding hills, is interesting the landscape in which it is located. You can make a trip to the lighthouse and over the cliffs to the deserted beach. continue reading

Swimming in beaches in Mesudiye

If you consider combining a trip around Datça peninsula with nice swimming, the ideal swimming stop is one of the many bays near the town Mesudiye. It is better to stop not at major kilometer-long beach Ova Buku, but at neighboring eastern bay, which is divided into two beaches by a rocky promontory – Hayit buku and Kızılbük. There is a relaxed atmosphere, surrounding buildings are low and tourists are mainly local. continue reading
