The crossing of the Great Fatra
Spring-winter hike
The Great Fatra, which was declared a national park in 2002, is large in size. The highest point is Ostredok (1,596 m), which is lower by only about 113 m compared to Malofatranský Kriván. However, due to the rugged terrain and the loneliness of the individual hills, you can miss a much larger elevation gain per day. One-day hikes in Velká Fatra are long and physically demanding. For a thorough knowledge and experience of these mountains, several-day crossings are recommended. They sleep on mountain huts or in places designated by the NP administration for one-day bivouacs and camping. In case of emergency, it is possible to find refuge in mountain huts, of which there are several at the foot of the mountains and some are even of a hotel nature, which can spoil the overall impression of a rock tourist.
Arrival
Liptovska Osada
We start the tour on Friday evening, a short distance behind Liptovská Osada (where we can be reached by car), where we choose the Limba shelter as the place of the first night. It was clear to me that this was a great choice from the first moment when chatter Vojto warmly gave me a welcome hand. It is about 600 meters high to the cottage, but since the next day we plan to reach Král's Well, I am glad that we divide the elevation and kilometers into several days.

A hearty spring springs up just above the lake, and the local frogs honor the famous saying and sit there like frogs on a spring.
Second day
Rakytov - Ploska - Ostredok - Krizna
After an excellent breakfast in Limba we will go to Rakytov – one of the most beautiful hills of the Great Fatra. The ascent can be really busy, but you shouldn't miss it. Only at the top will you see the Great Fatra in full beauty in front of you. The next road between Rakytov and Ploska leads mostly through open terrain with uninterrupted views. In the past, the central parts of the Great Fatra were deforested due to cattle grazing, which conditioned the creation of a unique cultural landscape. If you are not heading to the Borišov cottage, you will head towards the highest peak of the VF – Ostredek. From here it is already after a slightly undulating ridge about 2 hours to Križná and another half hour to the hotel Králova Studna. You definitely don't have to dream about the views of all the Slovak mountains. These are offered almost everywhere.

Third day
Král'ova Studňa - Turecká - Staré Hory
In the morning (again after a rich breakfast, which I recommend ordering for 5 €) we will go from the King. Well – spring, along the green, to the village of Turecká and then further to Staré Hory, from where the bus will take us back to Lipt. Settlements.

Buses also run on Sundays at fairly reasonable times. We walked a total of 35 km.
