When you find yourself in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I recommend visiting the premises where the Winter Olympics took place in 1984. In more than thirty years, the buildings have become catastrophic due to the war and non-maintenance. Bloody clashes took place right in these places. Traces of explosions and many small „scars“ of shrapnel from grenades can be found on the buildings. It is still not appropriate to move here as we like. The area was heavily mined during the war and to this day not all mines have been cleared.

In the mountains behind Sarajevo

The sports ground is located in an environment of beautiful, sparsely populated mountains.

Olympic hotel

The photo shows the ruins of a former Olympic hotel building in the center of Igman. Everything was destroyed by the war that erupted here 8 years after the Olympic Games. Finding yourself here is very special. The place still has its freezing atmosphere.

Cemeteries from the war

Near the building of the former hotel is a cemetery with those killed in the war. There are dozens, rather hundreds, of them in BiH. The war broke out here in 1992 and ended with the Dayton Accords in 1995.

Ski jumps

Opposite the Olympic Hotel we can see ski jumps. The Czech jumper Pavel Ploc won the bronze Olympic medal here in 1984.

Bobsleigh track

Bobsleds and sledders raced in this riverbed. Now the whole track is gradually falling into disrepair. During the war, Mount Trebević, on which the track lies, became one of the most suitable places for the sniping of Sarajevo by Serbian troops.
