The Opava lookout tower is 20 meters high and is located above the Opava village of the same name on the Opavská hora hill with an altitude of 577 m above sea level. A well-marked yellow tourist sign leads to the lookout tower. The journey takes about thirty minutes and at the bottom it is about the same time, as the end is a bit steeper and especially in the case of drought, the journey is dusty and quite slippery. The car can be parked right next to the main road if you are coming from Veľký Krtíš on the left side. It is parked right next to the tourist sign, or you can walk further along the asphalt road.

Road through the forest

At the beginning of the hiking trail, it is necessary to walk along the asphalt road and bypass the meadow, and then the hiking trail then enters a very nice oak forest, through which a large part of the road passes. On the way back, we already saw better how exactly the sidewalk passes, so we shortened it crosswise across the meadow, where it is possible to collect several medicinal herbs.

Lookout tower

After about 25 minutes, the path turns from a forest path to a steeper forest path, which ends in a meadow below the lookout tower. During the ascent, it is also possible to see interesting species of lizards and snakes, as it is one of the warmest areas in Slovakia. Under the lookout tower there is also a very nice place for grilling with benches, where it is possible to indulge in a longer moment of relaxation.

North view

When looking to the north, you can see to a great distance, especially to the area of Krupinská planina, and in case of good weather, the Low Tatras are said to be visible. I read on the web that in case of good weather you can also see Gerlachovský štít in the High Tatras. Due to the fact that the lookout tower is massive, it is possible to climb it even in the case of a stronger wind, as was the case in my case.

South view

Looking south towards Hungary brings views of several peaks and hills located in Hungary. For a better overview, a description of the peaks that are visible in the vicinity is added to the lookout tower.

To the east, in the foreground is the dominant Kamenný vrch, which can also be reached by a hiking trail, which begins in the neighboring village of Kosihovce.
