Lost and found on Canary Roads
Or when navigation loses you in a foreign country
This article will cover traveling around Gran Canaria by rented car. I must point out that even the cheapest car that can be rented on Gran Canaria (Ford Ka) can be driven and driven really everywhere.
Expressway
They have exactly one motorway in Gran Canaria. It runs from Mogán to Las Palmas, along the least interesting coast. The views here are really nothing special. Towards the airport there is a large number of wind turbines.
North of the island
The highway runs partly in the north of the island, but here it is more pleasant to look at.
Inland
Inland driving through the mountains could be described as „turns and turns“. You really won't find a straight road here.
Sightseeing places
Inland, it is very difficult not to stop all the time to enjoy the beautiful views. The advantage is that after every second turn there are places to stop at which a killing stop can be realized.

Using navigation on Gran Canaria can be tricky. It can very easily happen that you will be led along a road that suddenly disappears and only a dam remains.
Lost again
At the same time, the navigation may lead you to a „road“ of barely the width of your Ford Ka, where you just pray that no one is going against you.
But it's worth it
Although we stopped being sure we were still on the road as it began to turn gravel, the views were phenomenal. Therefore, if you want to see beautiful places while traveling in Gran Canaria, otherwise hidden from tourists, allow navigation to lose you. One of our greatest experiences is precisely these moments when we drove not only on the main, but above all forgotten roads :)
