Kyrgyz romance
After overcoming a long journey, mostly through an arid valley, from Kočkor to the moraine of Lake Köl Ükök, you will reach a completely different world. Here you just need to „stay“ in a yurt or set up your own tent and then you can enjoy beautiful walks around this beautiful lake. However, only the trail along the western side of the lake has been trodden. Hiking on the east side is relatively dangerous due to the rubble slopes. The actual basic walk is about three kilometers and there is really nowhere to hurry. More hardy individuals can bathe in this clear lake.
First view of the lake
The first view of the lake is from a rocky moraine and will most likely take your breath away. The lake is really beautiful and at the end surrounded by four thousand mountains.
View from the moraine shore
If you want a complete view of the lake from the very beginning, you must leave on a comfortable footpath and jump over the rocks to the eastern side of the lake. The first potential tent plot can be seen from here – unless it is occupied by a yurt with herders
The northern end of the lake
Outside the northern end of the lake, where there is a rocky moraine, and the almost impassable eastern side, there is a nice path or meadows with cattle on the shore of the lake.
Rubble slope on the eastern side of the lake
The main reason why the eastern side of the lake is not used is the almost kilometer-long rubble slope – it is also the originator of several islands on the lake. It must have been a real landslide at one time.
At the southern end of the lake
On the way to the southern part of the lake you will pass a large stream. Here it is possible to drink good drinking water. In the southern part of the lake there are far more options for setting up a tent – the terrain is flatter and very romantic. An ideal place for a base if you intend to stay here for a few days and take trips around the area.
Mountain panoramas
Directly above the lake rises a mountain with a beautiful glacier. In contrast to herds of horses, it looks really magical here.
Lake from the south
The opposite view from the south to the north is no longer as breathtaking as the view from the other
South end of the lake
At the southern end of the lake, three rivers flow into it. If you manage to overcome them, you can alternatively ascend to the pass on the eastern side of the lake and go back to Kočkor through another valley
View of the main valley
The main valley continues a few kilometers further – an ideal opportunity for another walk.
