Flights from Munich to Fuerteventura take about 4,5 hours. Some people may find it boring, but a lot of interesting happens behind the windows (depending on weather). The best view is from the front of the cab.

Germany

The plane is rising and the height allows us to see as far as the distant ridges of the Alps.

Spain

Spanish landscape is very different from what we have seen in Central and Western Europe. Mountains, hills and hills again and in places lakes.

Mouth of the river

Guadalquivir River flows through the towns of Cordoba and Sevilla. Its mouth into the Atlantic Ocean is very wide. Semi-desert with sand dunes is the National Park Coto de Donana.

Atlantic coast

We leave the mainland above the Gulf of Cadiz. Town Cadiz is clearly visible on the narrow tip of the mainland. In the back there is a strategic gateway to the Mediterranean Sea – the Strait of Gibraltar. The African continent on the far right is covered by clouds.

Atlas mountains

We're flying towards „dog“, or the Canary Islands (canis = dog, canaries do really have nothing in common with the islands). To the east rises the African continent, the snowy peaks of the Atlas Mountains.

Corralejo

About half an hour before landing we begin to fall. Somewhere below us is the island of Lanzarote. The town Corralejo lying to the north of island Fuerteventura begins to appear. On the left, so in the west direction behind the first volcanic peak, starts tourists trail GR131, which stretches across the whole island.

Isla des Lobos

The neighboring island of Lanzarote is in sight. Ferry from Corralejo overcomes the distance within half an hour. But the closest island belongs to Fuerteventura – Isla des Lobos. It is possible to get to this natural park by boat in 10 minutes. At the bottom begin to emerge sand dunes of Corralejo Natural Park.

Gran Canaria

The plane copies the eastern coast of the island and roughly in the halfway it sharply turns back to the mainland north to the axis of the runway. We get to the bottom surface of torn trade wind clouds. For a short moment on the horizon appears another island, Gran Canaria.

Casas de Pozo Negro

We are still going down. View from the plane is the first introduction to the island Fuerteventura. The first impression, the first inspiration. We pass a small bay with a beach and a few houses – Casas de Pozo Negro.

Tourist center

A few hundred meters before the airport we pass a typical tourist resort of Caleta de Fuste. Greenery of a golf field is fully dependent on irrigation, which is true for virtually all the vegetation in such an otherwise very dry island.
