The walk from the hut Similaun to Tiesenjoch pass (3 208 m asl) takes about an hour. In Tiesenjoch pass is a small memorial „Ötzifundstelle“ built in honor of finding well-preserved mummified relics of prehistoric hunter Ötzi. From there is also a nice view of Similaun and into the valley of Val Senales/Schnalstal. From the memorial you can ascend on to the pass Finailjoch, and descend through the valley of Rofental or go back the same way and descend through the valley of Niedertal back to Vent.

The way to Tiesenjoch

Start of the path to Tiesenjoch is clearly visible, if you ascend a few tens of meters above the hut Similaun. From there you can nicely see how the path from the hut Similaun declines for a while to bypass the ridge and then begins to rise through a small valley to the foot of Hauslabkogel (3 402 m asl). The path is well trodden by skialpinists, so you can easily get through either on snowshoes or in hiking boots. The pass Tiesenjoch itself is not visible, only the ridge connecting Finailspitze with Hauslabkogel, to which you need to ascend, if you want to get back to Vent through the valley Rofental.

The ascend through the valley

You will fortunately descend just less than 50 altitude meters from the hut Similaun before the path begins to rise again. In the background is nicely visible the top of Similaun.

Ascend to pass Tiesenjoch

In the summer you can see here small remains of the glacier. In the beginning of spring it is still hidden under the snow and the way on the track beaten by ski alpinists is not very dangerous.
