Area in the north of Greece
Zagori is a mountainous area located north of Ioannina and belonging to the system of Greek national parks. Around 45 local villages have remained almost unchanged for centuries. The most breathtaking part of this region is the Vikos Canyon. The best way to get to the area is by car along narrow winding roads, where a land turtle will occasionally cross your path. By car, you can visit several villages in one day, see the canyon from above, enjoy the beautiful landscape and return back in peace.
Another point of interest for which visitors head here are several famous stone arch bridges. They are buildings probably dating from the 19th century, used to facilitate the passage of caravans with donkeys. The construction of the bridges was mostly financed by local families and the bridges bear their names.
The area is generally less known, so you can still enjoy all the local highlights with a minimum of tourists.
