A chain of volcanoes in this area separates Chile from Bolivia and at the same time the Atacam Desert from the Altiplano plateau. 35 kilometers east of San Pedro de Atacama rise the almost 6,000 peaks of Licancabur (5,960 m) and Sairecabur (5,971 m). Licancabur is accessed mainly from the Bolivian side, to Sairecabur you can drive off-road almost to the top to the height (5,685 m above sea level)

The surroundings of San Pedro de Atacama are rather inanimate. Lovers of strange colorful rock formations and wild gorges will especially enjoy here. In addition, there are the largest geysers on the Altiplan.
