Vysoké nad Jizerou (700m) is one of the highest towns in the Czech Republic. It lies on a mountain ridge high above the Jizera River. It is located at the northwestern end of the Krkonoše Mountains and is an excellent tourist starting point for both the Giant Mountains and the Jizera Mountains. At the northern end of the town is the Šachty ski resort. The biggest monument of the city is Kramář's villa (the summer residence of the Kramář family). The dominant feature of the city is the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria.
