The town of Padangbai in southeastern Bali is really tactically laid out for backpackers. On the one hand, a ferry departs from here in the direction of Lombok with the beautiful Rinjani volcano and on to other islands in the Lesser Sunda archipelago, where you can easily take a trip. In addition, there are four beaches and you can also snorkel or dive very well. Compared to other resorts in Bali, there is also relative peace. In addition, all beaches are accessible within a few minutes walk.

The main beach in Padangbai

The main beach in Padangbai, along which life pulsates the most, is mostly the domain of fishermen and boats taking divers to the right places in the area. You will hardly see anyone swimming here – but also at its southern end are ferries connecting Bali with Lombok. Instead, you can eat here or have a few beers in the early evening.

On the Blue Lagoon beach

Fortunately, the nearest nice swim is only less than two hundred meters east of the city in a small bay Blue Lagoon. Here they are well prepared for tourists. There is a so-called „warung“, where you can get food, beer, etc. There is also a nice snorkeling.

Volcanic cliffs in the Blue Lagoon

You may be wondering where such white sand came from when the surrounding volcanic cliffs are dark black.

Lush Balinese vegetation

Thanks to the impenetrable vegetation and volcanic cliffs, don't expect much exploration of the surrounding coast. Unless you're on a boat.

Silayukti temple above the beach

On the way back from the Blue Lagoon to Padangbai, you can take a break from swimming and visit the typical local temple.

View of Padangbai

The most beautiful beach around Padangbai is the so-called „Hidden beach“ or Bias Tegul. It is about a kilometer walk and in addition you have to conquer a smaller hill, only about 25m above sea level. The reward, however, are nice views of the central part of the city with the main beach.

Bias Tegul beach

Bias Tegul beach is one of the very beautiful beaches that you can find in Bali. Due to its relative distance from Padang Bai, there are not many tourists. The only defects in beauty are the slightly devastated slopes above it, where a hotel resort was built, the project of which eventually went bankrupt.

Warungi on Bias Tegul beach

If you stay in Padangbai for more than a day, you will definitely return to Bias Tegul Beach. Even though there are few visitors, there are simple warungs where you can have something to eat.

Ferry view

In addition, there is an interesting view of the ferries from the beach, which commute relatively often. As elsewhere in the tropics, it should not surprise you that the absolute azure becomes a sky full of clouds and the landscape is sprinkled with a real downpour.

Road to Mimba beach

If you want to get out of the whirlwind of the modern world and tourism, head to the fourth, last, longest and most deserted beach Mimba. About 1.5 km walk through the agricultural landscape south of Padangbai before you reach this black beach.

On Mimba beach

The beach of Mimba, which stretches to the horizon, is completely quiet. There is a dump thrown here and there on the sand, but you can also swim here.

Volcanic origin of Bali

Although most of the flyers show only white beaches, the vast majority of them here in Bali are black volcanic, which only confirms the origin of this island
