Almost everyone who visits the Hrubý Jeseník mountain range for the first time wants to climb its highest mountain and at the same time the highest mountain in the whole of Moravia – Praděd (1,491 m above sea level). The classic route from Ovčárna is also very simple, so you will meet a lot of families with children.

The classic and easiest ascent to Praděd starts at Ovčárna (1,290 m above sea level). You can get here either by bus or by car (on a tolled mountain road with a shuttle service). In addition to the large parking lot, there is a ski area and refreshments.

View of Praděd

Directly from Ovčáren there is a nice view of the destination of this trip – Praděd. If it weren't for the transmitter, it would be a relatively uninteresting peak on this side, thanks to its flatness.

View of Peter's Stones

Right next to the parking lot is a nice view of Petrovy kameny. There is a signpost for hiking trails and in addition to the overcrowded Praděd, you can go to the less common Jesenice ridge.

Exit path to Praděd

The actual path to Praděd leads along a wide asphalt road, so it is not exactly a mountain adventure. However, it will be appreciated by cyclists and families with children, of whom there are always many.

On the way you will pass two more turns to mountain cottages with the possibility of accommodation or refreshments – to the tourist cottage Barborce and Sporthotel Kurzovní. A short distance behind them is the possibility of replenishing water supplies.

Road to Praděd

The ascent along the road surrounds practically the whole hill. Only in its upper part you slowly get above the level of the forest and nice views begin.

View of Dlouhá Strána

From the exit „promenade“ there is a nice view of a possible even larger Jesenice attraction – the Dlouhé Stráně pumped storage power plant. With good visibility, you can also see the top of Kralický Sněžník, another of the important mountains of the Czech Republic

Beautiful panorama of the Jeseníky Mountains

The beautiful view is to the east, where there are only untouched, forest-covered hills on the horizon. The view of the nearby Sokolí skály is also interesting

The top of Praděd

After less than an hour and a half, you are finally at the top of the mountain. There's a huge transmitter in front of you. Its peak is the highest point in the Czech Republic.

View of Ovčárna and Vysoká hole

After less than an hour and a half you are at the top and you can enjoy the view of Ovčárna, for example, where you started the tour. As the crow flies, it's really a bit. Vysoká hole (1,464 m above sea level) rises above Ovčárna

Jesenice panoramas

The Jeseníky Mountains will not amaze you with great drama, but the picturesqueness is great. Back to Ovčárna, go the same way or extend your trip to visit Dlouhé strání.
