Cable car to the most beautiful view of Bernina
Perhaps the most famous cable car in the Bernina massif is the one leading to Diavolezza (2,978m). The starting point is the road leading to the Bernina Pass, about 9 kilometers southeast of the town of Pontresina. Along the cable car journey, there are beautiful views of the Livigno mountains lying in a northern direction. As it is significantly lower than the Bernina, you will have it in the palm of your hand. Of course, the main view is of the glaciers, but you won't see them until the very top.
View of Munt Pers (3,207m)
There is a huge parking lot near the cable car building and a train station – the famous Bernina Express stops here. To the south there is a view of Munt Pers (3,207m), which is a very easy summit from the top station of the cable car. Straight from there it's a classic hard alpine hike.
Gondola on the Diavolezza
The cable car here is a large manned gondola that runs every 20 minutes, so there is always some waiting time.
View down and to Piz Albris (3,166m)
We climb quickly and the views of the Livigno mountains open up. Opposite us is the peak of Piz Albris (3166 m), which looks more like a two-thousander.

We also have a view of Lago Bianco and the Bernina Pass. An interesting fact is that the railway continues from the pass along a completely different route than the road.

Another point of interest is the crossing of the massive ice karst with the beautiful Laj da Diavolezza lake

In a moment we have the lake below us. It can be reached from the top station of the cable car. The famous Bernina Tour also leads here

From here, Munt Pers looks completely different than from the bottom station of the cable car.
Peak in sight
The cable car goes over the Corn Diavolezza (2,903m) – the top of the ice karst – and a second smaller lake appears in front of us, the rest of the glacier, covered with tarps, the summit station and the amazing peak of Piz Palü (3,905m).
One last look back
And we are at the top. In the distance, the peaks of the Livigno mountains rise, but everyone came here for the view of the exact opposite side.

Surroundings of the cable car - Berghaus Diavolezza
Outside the cable car building, there is a second center – Berghaus Diavolezza, with the possibility of accommodation in this incredibly beautiful place. There is, of course, a restaurant, a garden and a viewing platform – almost useless for the mountains, you can see them from everywhere.
What to do around Diavolezzo
Even if you are not particularly a climber, it is possible to do a lot of relatively easy hikes around the area. The easiest is on Sass Queder (3,066m), where you can venture even with very young children. Piz Trovat (3,146m) is slightly more demanding. Other options are Piz Arlas (3,375m) and the already mentioned Munt Pers (3,207m)
