Demian is a 685 m high peak in the Štiavnica Mountains, located above the village of Hronská Breznica. The peak offers views of the Žiar basin and Kremnické vrchy. The summit can be reached along a green hiking trail in about an hour and a half. half an hour.

Bare hill

Holý vrch is the first of five stops on the nature trail, which bring information about the history of the area from its geological development to the first settlement. The hill itself is overgrown with trees, but they provide a view of the entrance to the Jasenica valley, which can be reached by train and car to Banská Štiavnica and forms the entrance gate to the Štiavnica hills from the north.

Across the meadows

At the beginning, the path leads through meadows and only at the end of them does you enter a forest path, which is identical to the green sign, and after it you will reach the top of Demian. When entering the forest road, the markings are weaker, so it is necessary to be careful and on the largest forest road it is necessary to turn left. If you go hiking in the summer, it is possible to find places to grill in these places.

Forest road

After about 30 minutes of climbing the forest road, there is a turn to the hiking trail on which there is also a well, which is also another point of the nature trail. After a slow ascent from the well, a more difficult part of the ascent to the steeper hill occurs, but we can still only talk about a more difficult walk in the forest.

Demian Peak

The peak itself is not interesting and it is just a classic hill somewhere in the woods, which is also largely overgrown with trees. However, it is interesting to go to the lookout, which offers a view of the Žiar basin, Kremnické vrchy, but also the more distant Vtáčnik and in good weather also the Low Tatras or the Great Fatra.

Lookout point

You can get to the end of these rocks, where the most beautiful view of the surroundings is, but be careful, because under the rocks there is a steep cliff. In the background you can also see the mentioned Low Tatras, in the left part Kremnické vrchy and in the foreground the village Hronská Dúbrava with a small hydroelectric power plant on the river Hron dominates.

West view

To the west, on the other hand, there is a view of the lower peaks of Vtáčnik or Štiavnické vrchy, or Pohronský Inovec, and the Žiar basin and the surrounding villages, which are located in the Hron valley and the surrounding hills.
