The Julian Alps are largely located in Slovenia and the rest are in Italy. The highest mountain of this mountain range is Triglav (2,863 m above sea level). The mountain range is of limestone origin. Julian Alps is part of the Triglav National Park and since 2003 has been registered with UNESCO. From a historical point of view, the Julian Alps are known for the bloody struggles of the 1st World War on the Soča River, nicknamed the Bloody River where it fell or wounded to 2 million soldiers.
