Frýdlant is a town in northern Bohemia in the Liberec Region. It lies in the Frýdlant promontory on the edge of the Jizera Mountains. It has long been a natural center of the region, probably called Frýdlant Region. The town through which the Smědá River flows was built around the castle of the same name and chateau. Its historic core has been declared a city monument zone. The town hall is the dominant feature of a picturesque square surrounded by colorful houses. The architecture of the town hall and especially its red bricks are reminiscent of King's Cross station in London.
