On the way from Oslo west on the E134, you can drive to the former mining town of Kongsberg. With a population of 25,000, it belongs to the medium-sized Norwegian cities. The city lies in the Numedal valley. Silver was mined here, so there are a number of abandoned galleries around the town. In the city itself, the biggest attraction is the waterfall Nybrufoss

Kongsberg cityscape

The city is divided into two halves by the river Numedalslagen. In the hills to the west there are galleries where silver was mined. You can go hiking in the gallery area. The trails then climb to the plateau with beautiful lakes, where the highest peak Jonsknuten (903 m) with a mountain hut and a television transmitter is located. So you can spend just a few minutes here or take a beautiful day trip around the area
