Trolltunga (Troll Tongue) is a rock formation protruding horizontally from the mountain at a height of about 700 meters above the surface of Lake Ringedalsvatnet. It is located near the village of Odda in the Norwegian region Hordaland. The place is very popular with tourists. We couldn't resist either and we are fulfilling our dream.

Day 15

Trolltunga

The alarm clock rings at five in the morning, so I hurry to the bathroom to catch up. We want to leave early in the morning until there are so many people. We arrive at the parking lot and pay 300NOK. It can be seen that we are late now, because the parking lot is almost full. It's 6:47 and we're going up. We can go either along the cable car or along the path. We choose the trail, so for the first few kilometers we follow a winding trail full of gravel. We are preparing for a 22-kilometer hike, during which we expect a steep climb in the first two kilometers. We go over huge boulders and streams, we almost release our souls a few times, but I still have to say that we have a good pace and we don't even stop much. We have a snack, a drink and only one bottle, because there is glacial, clean water all around, so we can indulge in a bottle at any time. Another important thing when we decide to go on such a hike is to change clothes. After all, the whole hike takes about eight hours and going up that winter in sweaty clothes is not much. We gather all our strength and step on what it gives. At times, I am very „optimistic“ and perhaps even more so when it starts to rain. Míra got me… he turns to me and says „Does nature charge you like me too?“ As soon as he saw my expression as a murderer, he didn't need an answer. On such a journey, you simply have moments when you say you have your teeth full. But you forget all those hard moments, blisters and sore backs for a while as soon as you imagine the beauty you see above. It can be said that the road is well marked and so there is no need for a compass. There is no signal, so navigation would be useless to us. We have a long way to go and still fog in front of us. Two more kilometers and we'll finally be there. The journey is really challenging, especially for the ankles and knees, so good and strong shoes are definitely important. We are approaching the goal, we are at the last kilometer and we can see people gathering from a distance. Hurrah! We did it ! We are here! we enjoy every moment, we feel like at some end of the world, somewhere where time has stopped, we are away from reality in beautiful nature, no cars, noise, only occasionally sunbeams and the departing fog under which the beautiful blue lake Ringedalsvatnet shines. We realize that this is one of those life trips that we will never forget. Míra is waiting in line right now and I'm getting ready to take the best photo. At the same time, I'm afraid he will fall down and I'm fighting the unbearable winter. That's exactly what I was talking about, if you don't have proper dry spare clothes, you'll freeze in those sweaty things. I didn't even go for a picture, I was frozen almost everywhere, which I'm quite sorry now, because when Míra saw me knocking, we went back down to the parking lot. Next time it definitely needs better equipment…. The way back is much more difficult. We build and rest several times. Everything hurts, we have blisters everywhere and I don't even talk about my back. We're pulling the backpack into it, so Míra digs up, „What do you think, how long have you been carrying the backpack?“ I'm angry with Míra and I'd rather take him a stone by the head, embarrass me like that and just when the Czechs are coming! but just for fun … The way down is more and more challenging. We already have the last strength and we build every few kilometers. Finally we descend to the gravel road and we have the last 4 km in front of us. We crawled down to the parking lot and it was perhaps endless. I have to say that it was worth it and we coped with it much better than many couples who followed us and were well equipped for trekking. I'm so proud of us. This was worth it …
