Within reach of the stormy waters of the Atlantic
Playa de Benijo is hidden in the NE of the island of Tenerife under the peaks of the Anaga mountain range. It's a place you'll love coming back to because it's DDKK. Don't you know what that means? WILD Atlantic waves crashing against the rocks create an amazing soundscape. HARSH weather of fresh wind, clouds, rain showers and salt water splashes enhance the perception of this place. The PEACE of both rocky and sandy beaches is usually not disturbed by a large number of tourists. THE MAGIC of this place has a mystical effect on the soul of the observer and visitor. There are other beautiful views of the coast from the nearby village of Almaciga, which you can enjoy for example at a great café cortádo.

We drive to the village of Benijo on narrow roads that cross the Anaga mountain range with their endless turns.
Coast
There are not many places to park in Benijo. And since there are several other hiking trails leading up the coast from here, it pays to arrive early.
The rocks
We go down the stairs to the beach. About 400 meters wide, Playa de Benijo offers direct contact with the ocean and the rock formations on the coast.
Sandy beach
Whether you walk on the sand or jump over rocks depends to a large extent on whether it's high or low tide.
Rainbow
The typical changeable weather here sometimes conjures up colorful arches of a rainbow right over the Atlantic.

At low tide, some coastal stones and rocks are exposed. It's tempting to look at some, but beware, there's a lot of sliding and the waves have a force that's hard to resist.

It is said that every ninth wave is really massive. So we tried to calculate it and it somehow works. They are proper showers.
Benny
We climb back up the stairs to the village of Benijo. There is a pleasant restaurant with excellent fish specialties and a view of the beach, where just a moment ago we were in direct contact with the wild waves of the ocean. On the hill in front of us, we can see the village of Almaciga, where we are going now.

We turn off the coastal road and after a short steep climb we reach our destination. Won't the steep slope eventually run into the houses?

We pass through the narrow streets of the village, which has the steep peaks of the Anaga mountain range behind it and the Atlantic in front.
Guardian
In some houses, they indulge in various figurines, ornaments and all kinds of other art. So, for example, here we meet a large guard frog. Stings when caressed.
There is no command without connection
We discover a payphone in a small square. Its appearance indicates that no one has actually called from it for a long time.

A narrow walkway runs along the village above the Atlantic. So here someone got from New York all the way to Almacig.

From the village, you can go directly up the local trails up into the hills of the Anaga mountain range.
