Roque Nublo is a mountain in the interior of the island of Gran Canaria with a sixty-seven meter high rock at the top. It was a cult place of the original inhabitants of the islands – the Guanches. It rises to a height of 1813 m above sea level. The main rock is 67 meters high, is made of basalt and was formed as a result of volcanic activity. In 1987, the Spanish government declared it a protected natural area and national park seven years later.

Way

Getting to Roque Nublo is not difficult at all. It is advisable to leave early, because the parking at the starting route is usually full. Then you have a nice way up. However, keep your hats and sunscreen with you. If the coast is 30 degrees, the temperature in the mountains is even higher and the heat of the sun stronger.

We found a pine tree

Gran Canaria is generally a very dry island. There is not much vegetation here. Various succulents predominate, etc. However, in higher elevations, Canary pine stands can be seen. This species of pine can only be found in the Canary Islands.

Roque Nublo

At the finish we will find a huge basalt knot, impressive to look at and also an unbearable hearth. At the time of our visit, it was over 40 ° C in the mountains.

Prospects

Since we can no longer find a pine tree at the very top, there is a beautiful view in all directions. Roque Nublo is the main blockbuster of the island and therefore it is necessary to take into account that you will be surrounded by a large number of tourists.
