Or a ride on a yellow catamaran
When visiting Mahon, one of the most popular attractions is a yellow catamaran ride. Tickets for this boat can be purchased directly at the port, but some hotels or representatives of travel agencies also offer them at discounted prices. The ride takes a little over an hour. Interpretation in several languages is included in the price. The boat also has a glass bottom and part of the ride is dedicated to watching the seabed.
View of the city
Only from the ship can you look at the entire center of Mahon in all its beauty so that its majesty stands out.
Ship transportation
Mahon is also a cargo port. There are also ferries to the neighboring island of Mallorca or to mainland Spain.
Illa del Rei
It should be mentioned that the harbor bay is so large that there are three separate islets. On the first of them, Illa del Rei, there is a monastic complex. The island can be visited as part of another boat trip.
Lazaretto
The largest of the islets is Lazareto. It is an island separated from the mainland by an artificial channel. There is a large building on the island, the so-called infirmary, which was used to quarantine arriving sailors. The Lazareto can also be visited on certain days as part of another boat trip.
Torre de San Felipet
The mouth of the harbor is guarded by an oval fortress, Torre de san Felipet. This was part of the port's defenses together with the huge fortress of San Felipe.
Port defense
Currently, the Fort of San Felipe no longer guards the port. Over the years, it was replaced by the even larger La Mola fortress, which is an unmissable landmark here.
Dream yacht
During our visit to the city, we were lucky enough to admire the Dreamboat among other ships. It is the tenth most luxurious yacht in the world.
