Hukvaldy is a village in the Moravian-Silesian Region known mainly thanks to the large castle complex and the composer Leoš Janáček, whose name can be found here at almost every step.

Hukvaldy Castle

Hukvaldy is known mainly for its extensive castle complex. An article about Hukvaldy Castle has been published here before, so in this article I will focus on other, more neglected attractions of the village Hukvaldy.

Hukvaldy Game Reserve

Hukvaldy Castle is surrounded by the park of the same name, which is one of the oldest in the country. Before you enter the field, you can't miss the massive field gate. Although this is not currently used, it still looks impressive.

Game

The game reserve has an area of a respectable 440 ha and a mouflon, a spotted fallow deer and a wild boar are bred here. The game is not too afraid here, so it is possible to observe it from a certain distance.

The Cunning Fox

In the field there is also a statue of the fox Bystrouška as a reference to Janáček's opera of the same name and the year 1959, when this opera was performed directly in Hukvaldy.

Leoš Janáček Memorial

The Leoš Janáček Memorial is also the house where this famous composer lived and created. In the memorial you can see an exhibition mapping Janáček's relationship to his native Hukvaldy.

Hukvaldy Castle

A lesser-known building is the local chateau, which was built in 1855 as a simple hunting summer house with elements of neo-Gothic. The interiors were decorated with hunting trophies. After 1948, the premises were adapted to the needs of the school and the facility was moved to Kroměříž. Adjacent to the chateau is an extensive English park. It is currently not open to the public.

Church of St. Maximilian

The church was built in 1759–69. It is a Baroque single-nave building with a front tower. The composer and local native Leoš Janáček played the organ in the church. The church is regularly open for inspection. The next time you visit Hukvaldy, stop at the lesser-known places of this village, which are definitely worth noting.
