Ascent to Rifugio Garibaldi

Directly from the pass, go straight up along the zigzag. After a while, the crowds below you and the mountain panoramas will become nicer and nicer.

After a few minutes of ascent you are at the restaurant Rifugio Garibaldi. The view is great. Passo Stelvio below you. On the far right you can see the gravel road leading to the Passo delle Partigliole (2,908 m above sea level) from where cyclists can go all the way to the Ortlerhaus and tourists ascend to Scorluzzo. The road at the bottom left leads again to the Tibet restaurant with classic road views.

The whole following tour leads along the state border of Italy – Switzerland, so you will come across border bollards. From Garibaldi, a hiking trail leads to the Umbrail Pass.

If you go here at the beginning of summer, count on snow cover. The surroundings are relatively flat.

During this tour, the views open up to another high pass – Umbrail, which is, however, completely in the shadow of Stelvia.

The main reason to go on this hike is the view of Ortler and the whole main ridge of this high mountain range.

The Ortler Mountains are the most glaciated part of the Eastern Alps.

If you are pressed for time, the goal of the tour can be a large bollard, about a kilometer away from Rifugio Garibaldi. Of course, a much better goal is to climb to the very top of Punta Rosa.

Between snow fields and stone slabs, you will be captivated by the beautiful and durable alpine flora.
