Pogačnikov House is located near Trenta and is widely used by tourists and climbers. You can sleep on it and it is a good connection, as a starting point for Triglav and other hikes. Pogačnikov has an altitude of 2050m. nm On the way to it is possible to see the remains of World War I. It offers great views of the surrounding mountains and the valley of the Sochi River, nicknamed the Bloody River. Although this is a large elevation gain, it is not as challenging as other outputs. You need to take water. There is only 1 well along the way. We leave the parking lot near Trenta. After about 10 minutes, the road takes us to the signpost, where it shows 3.5 hours to Pogačnikov Dom. After another 15 minutes of climbing we will reach the supply cable car to Pogačnikov Dom and here we will see the ascent again for 3.5 hours, so it was clear to us that 3.5 hours for ordinary tourists will be a myth and that the journey will take much longer. The advantage is that the climb is not so extreme and especially in the morning the rocks where the climb is located in the shade. During the ascent and good observation, I saw the remains of World War I, where shelters were carved in the mountains. I guess the cannons were hiding here. The path we are taking is not so popular with tourists and there is a possibility, so along the way they will see chamois or ibex. In 3/4 of the outlet there is the only well where water can be drawn. Which flows out of the Lower Lake. From here it is a short walk to Pogačnikov Dom. As a reward above is a beautiful view of the surroundings, especially the valley of the river Sochi. Which was named during World War I Bloody River. 2 million soldiers were killed or wounded in the fighting for this valley. Among them were Czechoslovak soldiers, who also have their cemeteries here, and among Slovenes, Czechs are welcome guests. To this day, there are folk songs, such as the War of Italy. At Pogačnik's House there is the possibility of refreshments and overnight stays, before traveling to Triglav, Vršič or others. The way up took us 4.5 hours and the way down took about 3.5 hours.

Remnants of war

It is necessary to keep your eyes open and watch the unnatural. Here you can see a niche in one mountain, which probably served in the First World War, as a position for artillerymen who blasted the river valley.
