The sand dunes are located near one of the most popular resorts on the island, Maspalomas. They stretch along the coast for several kilometers. A total of 418 hectares of sand and dunes have been declared a nature reserve since 1994.

You can't miss them

Sand dunes are one of the main attractions of the island. If you drive to Maspalomas and head towards the sea, you can't miss them.

How did it happen?

It is not entirely certain how the local dunes actually formed. Although legend has it that the wind from the Sahara blew the sand here, the reality is a little different. Massive dumps are mainly made up of remnants of corals and shells, which the surf probably gradually washed ashore.

Walk

The coast at Maspalomas is quite windy and therefore the dunes are constantly „overflowing“ and changing. Due to the high summer temperatures, a walk on the dunes is quite a difficult matter, as the sand is sometimes very hot.
