Along a beautiful lake in the Julian Alps
If you are traveling from Austria to Italy via Villach, it is good to leave the motorway in Tarvisio and take a side road along the beautiful Lake Predil in the picturesque landscape of the Julian Alps. At the same time, there is a starting point along the way to the breathtaking peak of Jof di Montasio (2,753 m above sea level)
The first view of Lake Lago del Predil
From the picturesque resort of Tarvisio (750m above sea level) it is only about 10 kilometers through a mountain valley to Lake Predil. Just before the lake, a mountain road turns in the direction of the Predil saddle and Slovenia.

At the lake there are many places where there is a nice little beach made for summer swimming. The water is clear, but of course pretty cold.

The southern edge of the lake is dominated by the majestic peak of Cima del Lago.
Sella Nevea Pass
From the lake, the road continues to the Sella Nevea pass (1,190 m above sea level). There is a ski resort – so a slightly damaged mountain landscape and a view to the top of Kanin (2,587 m above sea level)

The area around the pass is not so interesting, but you can go on a great road trip to the plateaus of the Altopiano del Montasio (1,520 meters above sea level). From here you go on a difficult hike to the top of Jof di Montasio
Descent from the pass
The descent west from the pass is completely different from the peaceful exit from the other side. Road with twists and turns down. The original place is a bend directly in the tunnel. An interesting descent.
Raccolan Valley
From the road there is also a nice view of the wooded Raccolana valley, where the ride awaits you.
