Rock castle and rooms
One of the most interesting places to visit in Příhrazské skaly is the ruins of the rock castle Valečov. Apart from a nice castle with lots of tunnels in the rock massif and nice views to the south in the direction of Mnichovo Hradiště, you can experience a small adventure while exploring the surrounding rock rooms, so typical of the Bohemian Paradise. Thanks to this, this place is very popular even for families with small children, who are definitely not bored here.
View of Valečov from the summer theater
As you approach the village of Boseň, you can see the top of Valečov Castle, which rises on the surrounding pine trees. After parking, you can walk about 400 meters slowly up under the castle. Just in front of it is a large grassy area serving as a summer theater. There are also two swings for children. The view from here to the castle is a bit influenced by mature trees.
Directly below the castle
The whole castle was exhibited on one massive solitary sandstone massif. The main former multi-storey building is of course at the highest point. The path to it led only through narrow tunnels built into the rock.
Valečov mini museum
You walk through the castle without a guide. There is a one-way circuit. You can buy tickets in the snack next door, which looks slightly shabby. You will also receive a paper describing the tour. Right at the beginning of the tour is a room converted into a small museum. Here you can read something about the history of the castle.
View from Valečov
After climbing the stairs to the top of the rock, you will have a nice view of the region. The horizon is dominated by the main hill of the Macha region – Bezděz. In addition, you have the whole of Mnichovo Hradiště in the palm of your hand
The main building of the castle
You can also best see the main building of the castle
The interior of the main building
You will walk down the hall to the main building – here was the former heart of the whole castle. Due to the fact that the building had to copy the meat, it is relatively high and at the same time quite narrow.
Narrow passage
It is not recommended to go to the narrowest corridor of the castle, where you have to walk in a proper forward bend, to people who have phobias from cramped spaces.
Hallway out
You will descend the castle through the longest corridor
Around the castle
Before you move on, go around the whole massif. There are a few more interesting things to see – a view of the castle cellar with bandits, or other rock rooms.
Castle from the east
Perhaps the most interesting view of Valečov Castle is from its eastern side, where its „slenderness“ stands out.
Rocks behind the castle
Before you finish the tour of this place, continue a few tens of meters along the red tourist sign to the places where other rock rooms are carved.
Rock rooms
There are a number of rock rooms, ideal for exploring with small children.
