A tour of the El Tatio geyser

It always departs San Pedro de Atacama very early (around 4 am) to be there before dawn.

The entire geyser field is relatively large and lies only six kilometers as the crow flies from the Bolivian border.

The individual geysers range in size from small holes in the ground to huge, smoldering „chimneys“.

After dawn, the temperature finally begins to rise from the usual night –15 degrees to zero.

You can fill your free time before departure not only by swimming in the thermal pool, but also by nice walks around the volcanic surroundings of the geysers.

When walking, however, be careful where you step. It is one of the places where you can, if you are „handy“ to bring frostbite and scalds in one day.

You will almost always have a border volcanic ridge in front of your eyes. Around you are huge boulders thrown away from ancient massive explosions

The passages of the frozen streams alternate with „meadows“ with golden-colored Altiplano grass.

The steam from the largest geyser rises up to several tens of meters high.
