The historic center of the city
The historic core of the city has been declared a city monument reserve. The local famous evangelical lyceum was attended in the 18th and 19th centuries by students from all over Central Europe, regardless of religion or nationality. Many important Slovak and foreign personalities studied and worked here:

The large and modern Main Square is dominated by the classicist town hall building.
Evangelical wooden articular church
The biggest gem is the relatively inconspicuous evangelical wooden articular church of the Holy Trinity from the outside. Thanks to its unique construction and stunning interior, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
Evangelical New Church
An evangelical church called Nový was built next to the wooden church at the end of the 19th century. The church has an interesting Art Nouveau architecture, in which we can also find elements of the Jewish, Catholic and Muslim faiths. The altar is unusually raised and a local native, the heroic fighter for religious freedom, Count Imrich Thököly, is buried in the crypt.
