Yucatan is the perfect combination for those who love sun, beach life and at the same time want to visit uncountable impressive Mayan sites, the most important in the whole of Central America and the Caribbean, or mysterious cenots – half flooded karst caves, where it is possible to swim among stalactites. Beautiful Caribbean coast here is called Mayan Riviera and you can experience here either crowded resorts full of gigantic hotels or pleasant places with absolutely relaxed atmosphere or slowly declining number of meanders without any buildings. Interior of the peninsula, except for the monuments, is not very interesting – flat landscape with bushy forests. Yucatan is definitely not a destination ideal for hiking.
